Headmaster's Welcome 13th May 2022
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Pupils in Year 7, 8 and 9 had an author visit them on Monday. Steve Tasane read excerpts from his book and explained to the pupils how they could generate ideas and shape their writing to suit different audiences.
On Wednesday, pupils in the various year groups had talks on e-safety from Karl Hopwood. The session for staff after school was most informative. What is clear is that the rate of electronic change continues to be rapid and we need to be as sensible with our online profile as we are in our day to day interactions. I was staggered to learn of the relatively high proportion of children aged 3 to 4 who are accessing social media.
On the sports front, the week has been dominated by cricket fixtures, and I would like to thank all of our sporting pupils for representing Bethany so well.
In some respects this is the calm before the storm as Year 11 start their GCSE examinations in earnest on Monday. I wish them well as they embrace external examinations for the first time in their schooling to date.
This reminds me of the following tale. A woodsman was once asked – “What would you do if you had just 5 minutes to chop down a tree?”. He answered – “I would spend the first 2 and a half minutes sharpening my axe”. I hope that all of Year 11 have been sharpening their minds for their examinations next week.
And finally, I am looking forward to the Sixth Form Ball next Friday, it promises to be a great event.
Enjoy your weekend.
