Headmaster's Welcome 17th June 2022

Dear Parents and Guardians,

What a glorious week this has been. I feel like Bethany is positively tropical!

Year 9 pupils have coped well with their end of year examinations and our GCSE and A Level pupils seem to be taking the examination stress in their stride.

Our sports fixtures continue uninterrupted, and the Year 12 musicians are pleased with their performance earlier on today.

Next week is a busy week. It is School Diversity Week, Year 12 have internal end of year examinations, Year 7 and 8 have project-based learning days on Tuesday and Wednesday and there is a Year 9 Learn to Earn workshop on Thursday.

Our annual Speech Day, Leavers' Day and The Bethanians' Society Reunion Day is on Saturday 25th June. As mentioned last week, pupils in Years 7-12, and their parents, can arrive from 10am and receive some refreshments in the Assembly Hall, and there will also be some activities for the boarders to participate in for about 20-30 minutes or so.

At 10.30am parents and pupils are requested to go to the Sports Hall to take their seats at the Prize giving ceremony which will start at 11am.

Our guest speaker is a chap called Ben Heason, who has climbed mountains and waterfalls all over the world.

The ceremony itself will finish at around 12.15pm after which there will be further refreshments in the Assembly Hall prior to departure.

There will be no bus service on Saturday.

Visitors are requested to wear low-heeled shoes as we have laid a new floor on the Sports Hall and wish to preserve it.

Some former pupils will also return on Saturday, and they will be able to see some exhibitions in the DT and Art areas, as indeed can parents if they so wish. There will also be some exhibitions in the library, depicting the school history, during the Jubilee years of the Queen.

Given the warm weather I thought I should share an absolutely terrible sun joke with you. Why is bread similar to the sun? It rises in the yeast-ern side and sets in the waist ern side!

I hope you all have a most enjoyable weekend.

Yours sincerely,

Francie Healy
