Headmaster's Welcome 20th May 2022

Dear Parents and Guardians,

This week has seen some typical British summer weather; tremendous sunshine as well as heavy rain. The moisture, of course, is badly needed in the gardens and the cricket season would not be a cricket season, without rain!

GCSE examinations began in earnest on Monday and so far, so good. The Year 11 pupils I have spoken to seemed happy with how the various examinations have gone. For those pupils doing examinations or about to start examinations I would like to remind them of the following quote by Benjamin Spock, an American pediatrician, who said “trust yourself, you know more than you think you do”.

The logistics of organising examinations has proved to be particularly tricky this year and I would like to thank Katja Thornton for managing this increasingly complicated process so well.

To mark the Queen’s Platinum jubilee, Bethany is laying on a tea party (without the tea!) for our pupils at 4.20pm next Thursday on the Headmaster’s Lawn. Thanks to Spotify, we will also have music from important years in the Queen’s reign such as 1952, 1977, 2002 and 2012 which of course are her coronation and previous jubilee years respectively.

There is a Year 10 evening of Drama on Monday when, no doubt, I will marvel at the various monologues delivered by our talented pupils.

I am looking forward to the Year 13 Ball tonight, it will not take me nearly as long to get ready as some of the other attendees and I suspect that will be evident in our respective appearances!

Have a great weekend.

Yours sincerely,

Francie Healy
