Headmaster's Welcome 25th February 2022

Dear Parents and Guardians,

What a week this past week has been. Storms are only named when they are particularly strong, and we had three of them within a week. Minor damage was done to the Bethany site and my house was without power for 4 days. I think my children found it more difficult to do without Wi-Fi than heat or light, which is a reflection of the modern world!

Year 10 pupils have been sitting their examinations this week and I hope that they will end up getting the results they deserve.

The government has relaxed procedures regarding Covid-19 and these were detailed to you in a separate letter yesterday. Bethany will continue to act cautiously and sensibly and hopefully we are now entering the endemic stage of this pandemic.

Our Art scholars enjoyed their workshop on Tuesday and it was great to see some sports fixtures resume after the half term break.

On Monday 28th February there is a series of drug talks to the pupils and there is also one for parents which starts at 6.30pm and will be held in the Function Suite.

Next Friday 4th March sees us resume our Festival of Scholars evenings which will take place in the Science building and starts at 6pm.

The Friends of Bethany School (FOBS) have organised a night of comedy on Saturday 5th March. Tickets cost £15.00 and the cost can be put onto your child’s School bill. Please contact my PA, Andrea Discombe (hmsec@bethanyschool.org.uk) if you wish to attend. It promises to be a humorous evening.

There is a dinner on Saturday 19th March for parents who wish to find out some further information about the Performing Arts Centre. We had three similar dinners in the autumn term. Bethany is still in the private phase of its fundraising appeal for this project. If you wish to attend the dinner, please respond by emailing Andrea Discombe at hmsec@bethanyschool.org.uk or by filling in this form by Friday 4th March 2022 at the latest.

All storms pass, including the storms we experience in our own lives from time to time. That is always worth remembering.

Yours sincerely,

Francie Healy
